Dr. Joanne Genewick is a board-certified family medicine physician with over a decade of experience in integrative, patient-centered care at the Mayo Clinic Health System. Trained at Des Moines University and the University of Minnesota, she brings a rare blend of clinical expertise and holistic insight to her private practice. Her advanced fellowships in Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM) and Integrative Medicine allow her to treat every patient with precision and intention—restoring balance, relieving pain, and supporting long-term vitality.

With special interests in the musculoskeletal system, nutrition, women’s and children’s health, and preventive care, Dr. Genewick offers a deeply personalized approach to healing. Her sessions are grounded in science, guided by experience, and tailored to the unique needs of each patient.

About Dr. Genewick

Joanne Genewick, DO, FAIHM

Growing up in the Windsor Square Neighborhood of Los Angeles, Joanne Genewick’s journey began with a strong sense of community and family. From her earliest days at All Children Great and Small Preschool through her years at St. Brendan Catholic Elementary School and Immaculate Heart High School, she was surrounded by family, friends and mentors helping her achieve her goals. Dr. Genewick wanted to be a doctor from a young age. She was initially drawn to sports medicine, but personal experiences guided her towards more holistic medicine. She attended St. Mary’s College of California in Moraga, California where she received her BS in Health Science. After college, she returned home to Windsor Square and worked as a Manufacturing Technician at a Agensys, Inc., a biotech start-up company manufacturing cancer medication.

Medical school at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Iowa was transformative. Dr. Genewick found her passion for Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manual Medicine, and teaching. She extended her medical school training by 1 year to complete a teaching fellowship in Osteopathic Manual Medicine. After graduating from medical school in 2011, Dr. Genewick completed her specialty training in Family Medicine at the University of Minnesota Family Medicine Residency Program in Mankato, MN where she served as Chief Resident during her final year of training.

After residency, Dr. Genewick practiced family medicine in Iowa before joining the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN. There she completed at 2-year fellowship through the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine blending evidence-based complementary and alternative therapies with conventional medicine. She also pursued advanced studies in Herbal Medicine through the Foundations of Herbal Medicine Course, which she continues to study today.

With the Mayo Clinic Health System Dr. Genewick worked as a Family Medicine Physician for 5 years before taking a position as full time faculty with the Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency – Mankato. Dr. Genewick served many roles within the residency program including Director of Medical Student Education, Director of Osteopathic Education, and Associate Program Director. Dr. Genewick holds the academic rank of Assistant Professor at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Dr. Genewick has published articles in medical journals on a range of osteopathic and primary care topics. She lectures on osteopathic and primary care topics at residencies and medical conferences.

In 2025, Dr. Genewick returned to Los Angeles to be closer to family, opening Genewick Osteopathy – a private practice dedicated to holistic care. She continues to teach, remaining part of the Osteopathic faculty for the Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency – Mankato. When not working, you can find Dr. Genewick spending time with her wife, Kemmie, daughter, Sylvie, extended family, and dogs. Whether hiking in the California mountains, traveling the world, knitting, gardening, or listening to audiobooks, Dr. Genewick brings warmth, curiosity and compassion to everything she does.
